On the 1st, foreign media such as the New York Post reported, "Janna Samsonova, who lived in Malaysia eating only exotic fruits, ended her life." "His friends and family reported that 'Samsonova died of starvation.'"

Samsonova, an influencer from Russia, has millions of followers by posting her vegetarian lifestyle on social networking services (SNS) such as TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram. Recently, she has been presenting 'Mukbang' content where she lives in Southeast Asia and eats local fruits.

An acquaintance of Samsonova told News Flash: "When I met him in Sri Lanka a few months ago, her legs were swollen and her lymph fluid was leaking." He continued, "I was sent home for treatment, but Samsonova ran away, and when I met her again in Phuket, it was terrifying."

A friend who lived upstairs in Samsonova said, "I was afraid that I would find Samsonova's body every morning."

Samsonova's mother suspected "a cholera-like infection" for her daughter's death, but her official cause of death was never determined.

For the past four years, Samsonova has been a "vegan" vegetarian diet, consuming no meat, eating only fruit, sunflower seeds, and fruit smoothies and juices. Speaking about her restrictive diet, Samsonova said, "I see my body and mind changing every day. I love my new look and I will never go back to my old habits."

A food influencer said that Samsonova started vegetarian because she looked older than her peers. It is said that presbyopia is due to 'junk food' such as fast food, so he distanced himself from it. Since then, Samsonova has grown her influence as an influencer by sharing her own vegetarian recipes.

However, Samsonova's acquaintances believed that such extreme eating habits cost her life. A friend said, "Samsonova was melting before our eyes, but he believed 'everything was fine'".

Eating raw vegetables and fruit has many health benefits, including weight loss, improved heart health and reduced risk of diabetes, but it also has problems such as calcium and vitamin D deficiency, which are needed for bones, Healthline pointed out. He was particularly concerned that such a diet could lead to anemia, damage to the nervous system, and infertility if prolonged.

Samsonova is not the first case of starvation due to extreme vegetarianism. Prior to Samsonova, Shelia O'Early, a visionary vegetarian in Florida, USA, was sentenced to life imprisonment last year for starving her 18-month-old son to death by feeding him only small amounts of fruits and vegetables.

Some of Samsonova's followers, however, claim that the death was caused by chemicals in the fruit he ate, rather than a vegetarian diet.

Meanwhile, Samsonova's bereaved family is waiting for a medical report and autograph certificate to determine the public cause of death.
